Tell us a bit about you… where did you work at prior to joining the team at Velocity Commerce?
When I finished university, I spent a few months figuring out what I wanted to do before I started freelancing as a proof reader/content producer for a couple of years. While the total grammar freak in me found the work satisfying, (and I got to do some really cool stuff like writing scripts for a YouTube channel which was a lot of fun) I knew that I wanted to do something different and work with more people – freelancing can get a little isolated at times. I’ve always been interested in entrepreneurship and business so when I was approached for the role at Velocity, I was really excited!
What does your role at Velocity involve?
At Velocity, things are changing every day, meaning that my role is constantly adapting. This is great and the business is thriving with positive changes – new hires and bigger ambitions! Within the business I work on the own brand team, with Velocity’s own audio/technology brands (Majority and Oakcastle). My main responsibility is conducting research and generating insights for selling on Amazon. I carry out research on keywords, competitors, and markets, and I also produce the written content for our Amazon listings. My other responsibilities include social media outreach, working with charities, product testing and development, and writing instruction guides.
Talk us through a typical day…
At Velocity there is no such thing as a typical day! But my day almost always includes tea and lots of research.
What skills do you use day to day?
Writing and content creation, online research and Amazon analysis tools, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop for a few simple things, a lot of Excel for keyword research and analysis, competitor analysis, and market research.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
The people I work with! Closely followed by the work culture here, which is collaborative, supportive and exciting. Eddie & PJ are super driven and passionate and that shines through to the rest of the team. I feel very lucky to be a part of the Velocity family.
What is something that you have learnt during your time at Velocity?
E-commerce is the future… and teamwork and communication are everything!
